Modern yoga has been rapidly popularized for decades, but there have not been many studies on the possible compatibility of Christian faith and yoga or the interrelation between Christian faith and yoga practice. Among Christian scholars there has been a strong tendency to highlight the adverse but invisible effects of practicing yoga in the last couple of years. Along the lines of existing studies, this article also examines the possible effects on the faithful. Meanwhile, it tries to shed light on the way in which we understand modern yoga and assess unfavorable notions from Christian perspective. This article briefly looks at the development of modern yoga since its inception and tries as far as possible to critically review the Christian perception of modern yoga. This is because it is necessary to understand the multi-layered concepts of modern yoga and its cultural aspects so as to consider religious implications for the churches in multireligious society.
