Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of simultaneous reading strategies using artificial intelligence devices on the reading fluency of children with language learning disabilities. Methods: The subjects were 3 children in lower grades of elementary school with sub-par reading ability: a language learning index(K-WISC-Ⅳ result) of 70 or higher and bottom 25th percentile of reading capability (KOLRA result). Results: It was found that the reading fluency scores in the intervention stage and maintenance stage were higher in all three children than is the baseline stage. Therefore, it was observed that repeated reading activity through artificial intelligence devices had a positive effect on the increase of reading fluency score. However, positive effect on the number of syllables read correctly, a factor in calculating the value of reading fluency, was not found. In other words, not all factors of reading fluency improvement were positively affected and therfore it is difficult to interpret the increase in fluency scores as an increase in reading fluency. Conclusions: The study showed limitations due to the inability of the artificial intelligence device to control the reading speed and therefore the difficulty. It is also difficult to generalize the results of this study to children with learning disabilities due to short time period and low number of subjects. Further research through a more systematic approach, such as extending the functional part and the intervention period of artificial intelligence devide is needed.
