The purpose of this article is to devise a conceptual framework of doing-family to narrate an alternative family network in Korean society where strong familism norms are maintained. At this time, if doing family puts emphasis on the composition and practice of actors as subjects, becoming a family puts emphasis on the emotions and bonds of non-subjects that permeate both physically and emotionally. In Korean society, the family representation system, which works as a defense mechanism to obsessively eliminate external/internal others, is justified through the organismic metaphor at the final level. The fantasy that the family is a single organism is a problematic topography from which various Korean doctrines such as blood kinship, patriarchalism, nepotism, heterosexualism, collectivism, survivalism, and snobberyism emerge. The author examines the meaning and limitations of network as a counter-fantasy against the existing family representation system, and examines the qualitative conditions for the network to become an open system that respects the otherness of individuals through the accumulated history of doing-family. Furthermore, concrete cases of new family-becoming emerging outside the normal family frame are examined through the Caring and Growth Neighborhood Talk Meeting that has continued for 8 years in Ansan after the 4.16 Sewol Ferry Disaster.
