After the implementation of the local autonomy, each city has begun to develop its brands to enhance competitiveness, improve cohesiveness and self-esteem of local residents, and satisfy their desire for local culture. While various design elements such as the city’s unique logo, color, slogan, and character were developed, the city’s digital typeface has emerged as significant since 2007 starting from the Seoul Metropolitan City’s font. However, as the need for a digital font in the region has recently emerged, it is being developed in an instant, but research on the identity and formativeness of the font is lacking. This study contains the development process and results of “Seoul Geumcheon Digital Typeface (Geumcheon G Valley Sans)”, which is the result of Publication Industry Promotion Agency support project under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the digital regional humanities content development project. Using the digital technology, we would like to analyze the “Geumcheon G Valley Sans” digital font, in which this researcher directly participated in planning and development, as a representative example of the use of local cultural contents. By incorporating the meaning of the local culture in the form of the typeface and using the digital typeface by local residents, the establishment of branding and voluntary identity in the region contributes to the creation of a new communication culture. The development process of “Geumcheon G Valley Sans” do not represent the development process of digital typefaces. However, through this process, we intend to present the right direction for the development of the City’s Digital Typeface and help the development of city digital fonts.
