A study on various TEMs of a laser with electromagnetic wave characteristics was conducted. Modulated laser beam was irradiated on the specimen to calculate the temperature and the quantitative results were compared. Along with TEM<SUB>00</SUB> and TEM<SUB>10</SUB>, various combinations of TEMs were simulated with the same total output power of laser beam. In TEM<SUB>00</SUB> mode, Gaussian distribution, the maximum temperature was calculated to be 2,157℃, which is significantly higher than that of other combination Cases #2 ~ #5. Based on the results, we found that the solid form of energy did not rapidly diffuse to the outside because the heat source was accumulated at the center as a form of internal heat. However, it was found that the material cooled rapidly after the temperature reached its peak. However, when the TEM<SUB>00</SUB> and TEM<SUB>10</SUB> were combined, the temperature distribution showed that the cooling temperature gradient was very gentle. The results confirmed that suitable modulation of laser beam could effectively control the heat input on the material which is sensitive to temperature change. It was also found that by controlling the transverse mode of electromagnetic waves, various control schematic of heating and cooling applied to the material is possible, and indirect analysis is possible through computer simulation.
