This study attempted to investigate the coloring properties of semi-permanent black acidic hair dye which causes large color loss on synthetic hair and human hair. In terms of the brightness(L*) of sample hair dyed with black acidic hair dye, synthetic hair(BLSC-AH) was 15.36 while human hair(BLSC-HH) was 14.3 with a minor difference between them. In color difference(ΔE) as well, BLSC-HH was lower with 0.92. In terms of dye intake(K/S), BLSC-HH(10.7) was higher than BLSC-AH(6.3). To examine hair color fastness between BLSC-AH and BLSC-HH, color changes by shampooing frequency were measured. In color difference(ΔE), BLSC-AH revealed a big change as shampooing frequency increased with 1.75(5th time) and 6.99(30th time). These results show a much difference from the U.S. color difference standards. In terms of color difference(ΔE), BLSC-HH showed a little change with 1.25(5th time) and 2.01(30th time), compared to BLSC-HH. According to the U.S. color difference standards, such difference can be categorized as ‘slight(color difference detected)’. As washing frequency increased, BLSC-HH was lower than BLSC-AH in terms of color fading. In terms of color fastness and hair tinting, BLSC-HH was better than BLSC-AH. This study provided basic data for training and education on hair coloring by comparing differences between human hair and synthetic hair. It is anticipated that the study results would be available as a way to derive accurate hair colors.
