Flos sophora is a flower obtained from Sophora japonica L., and rutin, the main component of Flos sophora’s dye, has been confirmed to have antibacterial properties and is believed to have a positive effect on artifacts when used on this dyeing paper.
On the other hand, mordants are used in the process of dyeing paper. Since the manufacturing process is complicated, traditional mordants that have been used for a long time are being replaced with synthetic mordants.
Therefore, in this study, as a basic study to analyze the effect of the type of mordant on the physical properties of dyed paper, the optical properties, mechanical properties, physical properties, and pH change of the dyed paper were measured, compared, and analyzed.
As a result of visually observing the dyed Hanji and measuring the color difference, it was confirmed that the color was vivid due to the adsorption of the dye and the mordant. In addition, although the difference in strength for each mordant was similar, the decrease in strength due to the dyeing process was confirmed. This is considered to be a phenomenon that occurs when the dyeing solution and the mordant are dyed and affect the pH. Therefore, in future studies, it is judged that it is necessary to study the possibility of discoloration during deterioration.
