본 연구는 한국인 배우자들에 대한 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 변인들에 관한 연구로서 남편과 부인들의 결혼만족도를 비교하였다. 일반적으로 결혼만족도는 여러 가지 변인들에 의하여 영향을 받을 수 있으나, 본 연구에서는 문헌연구에 입각한 변인들 중 개인변인으로 수입, 학력, 연령, 가족변인으로서 가족과의 관계, 배우자 가족과의 관계, 그리고, 부부변인으로서 결혼년수, 결혼생활의 결정권, 가사분담, 부부간의 의사소통, 성적만족도를 중심으로 결혼만족도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 표집방법으로는 비모수 표집방법 중 편의 표집과 눈덩이 표집방법을 사용하였으며, 응답자는 792명 이었으며, 남편 262명(33%), 부인 530명(67%) 으로 구성되었다. 자료분석을 위하여 기술통계와 위계적 다중회귀분석을 사용하였다. 연구의 결과에 의하면,남녀 모두 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 변인들로 성적만족도, 의사소통, 배우자 가족과의 관계가 중요한 변인들로 나타났다. 이 3가지의 변인들이 각각 남편들의 결혼만족도의 49.5%를 부인들의 결혼만족도의 31.5%를 설명하였다. 남편들의 결혼만족도를 설명하는 제 1의 변인은 성만족도였고, 의사소통은 제 2의 변인이었던 것에 반하여, 부인들의 결혼만족도를 설명하는 제 1의 변인은 의사소통, 제 2의 변인은 성만족도 여자들 모두에게 성적만족도가 결혼만족도를 예견하는 제 1일의 중요한 요인이었고, 의사소통이 제 2의 중요한 변인으로 나타났다. 배우자의 가족과의 관계가 남녀 모두 결혼만족도를 설명하는 제 3의 중요한 변인으로 나타났다.

This study examined factors influencing marital satisfaction among married couples in South Korea. Upon Exploration of these issues, income, educational level, the number of years of marriage, decision making, division of household tasks, relationship with current family, relationship with spouse`s family, communication problems, and sexual satisfaction were hypothesized to be predictors of marital satisfaction among Korean spouses. Using snowball, purposeful and convenient sampling methods, a sample of 792 husbands and wives completed survey. The survey included items measuring demographic characteristics, sexual satisfaction (Index of Sexual Satisfaction), division of household tasks (Task Participation Index), decision making power (Decision Power Index) and communication problems (Conjugal Understanding Measure). Marital Satisfaction was measured by the Kansas Marital Satisfaction. Multiple regression analyses indicated that sexual satisfaction, conjugal communication, and relationship with spouse`s family were significantly associated with marital satisfaction among the husbands, explaining 49.5% of the variance in the marital satisfaction score. Simultaneously, sexual satisfaction, conjugal communication, relationship with spouse`s family were significant for marital satisfaction among the wives. These three variables explained 31.5% of the variance. The findings of the present study suggest several implications for future research. One principal finding was the important role of sexual satisfaction in marital satisfaction among Korean spouses. Future studies might explore this factor further. This study found the importance of conjugal communication in marital satisfaction among Korean spouses to be high. This result suggests the importance of enhancing couples` skills in direct negotiation and decision making. The findings of the study revealed the significance of relationship with spouse`s family in the degree of marital satisfaction. Especially, Korean society has traditionally emphasized the importance of filial piety, which comes from Confucianism. The majority of Korean husbands have not differentiated from their family of origin. Therefore, when social workers and family therapists deal with Korean couples, they need to investigate the problems of differentiation of self among Korean husbands.
