I would suggest that I explain the thought characteristic and the formation of garden design illustration (GDI hereafter) in ancient Chinese through the philosophical and historical contexts in the traditional thoughts background in ancient China. I would explain the generalized design theories and the hypothesis adaptable to the ancient Chinese design theories. For GDI, I would suggest that Confucianism유교 and Daoism도교, the two mainstream thoughts, be the ancient Chinese design background in the philosophical contexts. Confucianism design thought has illuminated emotion expression method of the pleasure and harmony spirit in the nature-centered design thought. Daoism has suggested that the function of the change rule from the minimal non-visual space into the maximal visual space as the visualization of dao도 forever. In ancient China design historical context, I would suggest that the representative dynasties Tang당, Song송, Yuan 원, Ming명, and Qing청 be the important examples in GDI. In Tang dynasty, emperor`s garden had accomplished the role of mixture of East and West civilization. And in Tang dynasty, many religion as Buddhism불교, Daoism, and Confucianism etc., has had mixed up to the design thought. In Song dynasty, the emperor`s garden has had the relation with neo-Confucianism, Utilitarianism, and Chinese style-humanism on the basic ground between ancient Chinese traditional design thoughts and new philosophical and political design thoughts.. In Yuan dynasty, emperor`s garden had expressed his grandeur honesty. In Ming dynasty, the hierarchical order had been influenced in the emperor`s garden and as southern area has been the economic core the garden pattern had been the pretty artificial arts. In Qing dynasty, the emperor`s garden had experienced the new artistic design and the world of Confucian virtue politics Utopia and had ruled out Daoism value world. The period had expressed Chinese humanism on mutual dynamics between ruling and ruled class. In conclusion, I would suggest the three points that first, the Confucianism and Daoism would be the two mainstream in ``GDI thought`` as background, Second, the representatives of each dynasty as Tang, Song, and Qing had have the historical contexts in ancient Chinese design art and aesthetics through the virtue politics, humanism and religion, And third, the historical development and tradition of GDI had the clue to understand the Chinese aesthetics reality or the most important characteristics in GDI through the whole ancient China period.
