The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristic of tors and climatic process in the Korea Mountains. The result are as follows : 1) Surrounding many tors we do not find angular or fragments broken by frost action but rounded blocks and regolith with a reddish brown color. This clearly indicates that the tors did not develop as residual surface forms by retreat of rock walls from frost action etc. 2) Typical tors are seldom developed on the upper part of block streams, around block streams and in block fields. 3) Deeply weathered rocks exist in many parts of the study area. In many areas, a lots of corestones are situated in a few to several tens of metes from the surface. 4) According to the facts mentioned above it supposed that most tors of 3 stage process with the evidence of topographic sites, differential weathering within a single tor, surrounding of tors, bedrock, outcrop of deeply weathered rocks and corestones etc. 1 Stage : selective subsurface rock rotting and formation of corestones by chemical weathering under preglacial. 2 Stage : exhumation of for by removal of the regolith under periglacial climate conditions during glacial epoch. 3 Stage : modification or destructions of for by subaerial weathering during postglacial age.
