The purpose of the study is to clarify the regional characteristics of the Tae Baik mts. by analyzing the pattern and function in this mountain village. The result can be summarized as follow; Although, Woon Gio Ri which is maintain the transportation function to cross the Tae Baik mts. is originated in the middle ages, most of rural settlement, including Woon Gio and Sin Ri, developed in recent times. It is concerned with the diffusion of shifting cultivation by using the method of slash and burn. For higher yield, farmers must be changed the farm field so periodicaly that there occured only new farms. And also, must of farm house is established 1930`s and settler migrated from country side of the whold land. The size of cultivated land of which its farm house possessed was about 1,500 pyung in Woon Gio. In Sin Ri, each farm house of mountain village have less than 1,000 pyung of the cutlivated land, the size of which in comparison, is larger than the latter village. This tendency of its enlargement resulted from several factors. One of these factors is follow; there is widely distributed a gentle slope by the geomorphic condition. Although, cultivated land is mainly utilized arable land, grass land, and wood land, it is alike in character of location around the farm house. Therefore, cultivated land is connected with one field, and farm house isolated as a dispersion type. And also, distance among the farmhouse is:. dominated less than 100m. The house type of inhabitant is relatively occured the spatial difference. Toward the inner land and high land, the structure of several rooms under the one roof is remarkable phenomena.
