The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics and problems of today’s elementary school students forming relationships with themselves and their peers in cyberspace, and suggest alternatives. With the development of science and technology, online activities through devices are increasing in children’s lives. In non face-to-face meetings, the audiovisual element is relatively emphasized compared to face-to-face meetings. Building a relationship biased toward audiovisual elements makes it difficult to understand oneself and others correctly. This can negatively affect children’s self-identity formation and peer relationships. The negative effects include a decrease in self-esteem and cyberbullying through SNS activities. As a way to overcome this problem, we suggested that children move from a visual-oriented connection to a multisensory connection. It is expected that children will be able to share various senses through physical play with their peers, which is a multisensory connection, and acquire the values of empathy, consideration, and respect necessary to form healthy relationships.
