This study examined the relationship between Male Gender Role Conflict(MGRC) and depression. and the mediating role of professional help seeking attitude and perceived social support in young men in their 20’s and 30’s. 392 men from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk area completed the Korean Male Gender Role Conflict Scale, CES-D, Social Provision Scale and the Attitude toward Professional Help Seeking Scale. The results showed that higher MGRC was associated with higher depression, negative help seeking attitude and a lower level of perceived support. Perceived social support mediated the relationship between MGRC and depression. Also, higher levels of MGRC were associated with negative professional help seeking attitudes which affected the level of social support and depression. Current findings suggest that it is necessary to intervene in men’s negative perception toward help seeking and perceived social support in order to mitigate the impact of male gender role conflict in depression.
