Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate people’s expectations of drug efficacy by the colors and class of drugs. Background: A medication error risks the patient, and it includes errors in prescription, dispensing, administration, and content. Even if the strength of the drug is different, the packaging and the color often remain the same. Since there is no standard criterion for designing the color of the drug, the similarity of the drugs causes much confusion to the patient and physician. Therefore, it is necessary to define drug colors that are compatible with human expectations within the specific drug class. Method: The human-subject experiment was performed under the 15 colors and two drug classes (sedative and stimulant). To offset the order effect, drug classes were presented in randomized order. The same-sized drug images with different 15 colors were offered through a tablet computer. Participants responded to the 7-point Likert scale about the expected efficacy degree. Results: A two-way ANOVA showed that there is no main effect of drug color and class. However, the results indicated a significant interaction effect between color and class of drug (p<0.001). Participants reported that gray, green, and teal provided higher expected efficacy when applied to the sedative than the stimulant. On the other hand, fuchsia and red provided ... 전체 초록 보기
