In this study, a three-dimensional computational model is developed to predict interfacial contact characteristics between bipolar plates (BPs) and gas diffusion layers (GDLs). The graphite flow channels in BPs are modeled with three types: single serpentine, interdigitated, and metal foam designs. The GDLs with various porosities are randomly generated with layered straight-cylindrical carbon fibers. According to the geometry of constructed contacting surfaces, contact spots between BP and GDL are mapped and cluster labelled.
