Museum Buildings are different from ordinary houses or office buildings in the point of exhibition and preservation environment. Therefore, not only at the beginning of museum building design all exhibition and preservation related factors must be considered, but also after the opening of museum, all operation related problems are analysed. This study aims for museum HAVC system design and operation guidelines through case study, which will lead to conserve HVAC system energy and offer appropriate and stable thermal and humidity environment in exhibition and storage area. The major study results are as follows. ⑴ To draw out the practical problems in museum, one museum is selected and analyzed for energy consumption and interior thermal environment with the mechanical facilities. ⑵ On the basis of review, energy consumption and interior thermal environment, the inherent problems of current domestic museums are concluded. ⑶ Energy conservation plans and operation guidelines in the museum buildings are drawn out in the category of mechanical system and control system.
