Most textbooks that claim to be integrated contain many pages dealing with simple grammar exercises or simplified speaking activities. There are also such imbalances found in regards to language content, just as they are detected between language skills. For example, the traditional approach to vocabulary learning, which is quite a simplified approach, is still being accommodated into newly developed textbooks despite the widespread enthusiasm for communicative learning. As this demonstrates, a diversification in learning activities is called for. More communicative and diverse activities were implemented in grammar activities as compared with vocabulary activities. But such features can be found only in some of the recently developed textbooks and are contained only in very narrow sets of activities. Thus this study examines tendencies in the organization of the fields of grammar and vocabulary in Korean textbooks and suggests learning activities for the development of vocabulary and grammar teaching materials.
