Obesity may be associated with increased markers of inflammation. As physical training significantly increases the local and systemic physical function, the obese women with training may be able to reduce their inflammatory risks. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of two walking exercise programs (one of 50% VO2max and the other of 80% VO2max) on plasma tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP) in 47 middle-aged women subjects. both prior to and after the 12-week walking exercise programs (10 for 50%-intensity exercise group, 10 for 80%-intensity exercise group), anthropometric variables (i..e., body weight, body mass index, percent body fat), and cardiopulmonary fitness were measured by using the standardized protocols. TNF-α, IL-6, CRP were measured in fasting venous blood samples. exercise program was performed for 12 weeks. the volunteers participated 3 times weekly in a supervised 55-80min waking session at an S Univ. the results of this study were following, cardiopulmonary fitness significant(p=.003) time effects with no significant intensity and time×intensity interactions. and significant(p=.001) 80%-intensity exercise group but not 50%-intensity exercise. TNF-α significant time effects(p=.001), intensity(p=.002), time×intensity interactions(p=.025). and significant 50%-intensity exercise group(p=.001) and 80%-intensity exercise group(p=.034). IL-6 significant(p=.001) time effects with no significant intensity and time×intensity interactions. and significant 50%-intensity exercise group(p=.037) and 80%-intensity exercise group(p=.010). CRP significant(p=.016) time effects with no significant intensity and time×intensity interactions. and significant 50%-intensity exercise group(p=.033) but not 80%-intensity exercise group. In conclusion, CRP had affected significantly greater improvements in exercise intensity but not TNFα, IL-6.
