The purpose of this study is to analyze research trend and characteristics based on bachelor's and master's degrees dissertations written from 2000, in which doctorate program for dance major was first established in ballet, the lower category of dance to 2006 present. This study also aims at suggesting future and direction for researches in ballet in the future by analyzing what kinds of diverse researches have conducted for each research scale, technique, institute, and period and by examining current research situation for ballet in Korea. For this, data was gathered by searching the keyword "ballet" for domestic bachelor's and master's degree dissertation on the database of National Assembly's electric library. This study collected total of 218 dissertations from 2000 in which doctorate program for dance study was established. The results of analyzing 181 after excluding 37 with subjects that are hard to be considered as research paper or with vague conclusions are as follows. First, academic theories of research papers on ballet in Korea need to be organized. Second, active and diverse research activities of research institutes related to domestic ballet are required. Third, professional education of researchers on ballet are required.
