The objective of the present study is to examine the effects of taekwondo coaches’ transactional and transformational leadership on taekwondo players’ social attitude and ultimately to suggest the role of leaders in helping players’ ideal social life so that players can establish right value systems. The subjects of this study were selected through convenient sampling from taekwondo players at high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi‐do who were registered at the Korea Taekwondo Association currently as of 2006, and 182 players’ replies were included in final analysis. Questionnaire was used as a tool to attain the purpose of this study, SPSS 14.0 program was used to analyze the data, and statistical tests including correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted at significance level of p<.05. The results of this study were as follows. First, among the sub‐factors of transactional and transformational leadership, charisma, individual consideration and conditional reward appeared to have a significant effect on the social integration of social attitude. Second, among the sub‐factors of transactional and transformational leadership, charisma and conditional reward appeared to have a significant effect on the social control of social attitude. Third, among the sub‐factors of transactional and transformational leadership, charisma appeared to have a significant effect on the socialization of social attitude. Fourth, among the sub‐factors of transactional and transformational leadership, exceptional management appeared to have a significant effect on the social emotion of social attitude.
