This study was designed to examine functional capacity of patients who have had anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and to investigate effects of a proprioceptive exercise and isokinetic exercise on function of involved knee joint. Exercise treatments performed from 8-week to 14-week after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Fifteen patients(autograft: n=2; allograft: n=13) were paticipated. 1. Limits of stability increased on forward(p<.01), left(p<.05), and decreased on TTCT(total time to complete test; p<.05). 2. Knee extensor in 60deg/sec increased on peak torque(p<.05), total work(p<.01), and knee extensor in 180deg/sec increased on total work(p<.05). Knee flexor in 60deg/sec increased on peak torque(p<.001), peak torque/BW(p<.05), total work(p<.01), average power(p<.05), and knee flexor in 180deg/sec increased on peak torque/BW(p<.05), total work(p<.01). Hamstring/Quadriceps ratio in 60deg/sec increased(p<.01) at the post-operative 14th(58.2±8.5%) than post-operative 8th(45.0±54%). 3. Thigh circumference increased on vastus medialis(p<.001) and rectus femoris(p<.05). 4. Lysholm score after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction increased significantly at the post-operative 14th(92.3±13.4) than post-operative 8th(61.5±8.7). It would be concluded that proprioceptive exercise and isokinetic exercise elicited many positive changes in the patients after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction such as knee stability and lower extremity strength(hamstring and quadriceps), but systematic program for medial-lateral stability of knee was necessary for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
