Rapid weight reduction is still prevalent in wrestling despite large bodies of evidence establishing this as a risky and even dangerous procedure. Anaerobic means "Without Oxygen." During anaerobic exercise at maximum effort, the body is working so hard that the demands for oxygen and fuel exceed the rate of supply and the muscles rely on stored reserves of fuel. The purpose of this study was to examine the changes of anaerobic exercise performance and body composition after 7days rapid weight loss through combined method (total food restriction and dehydration). Total six wrestlers who belong to H university wrestling team and was preparing for the competition volunteered for this experiment. All the variables has been obtained from the Wingate test. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 12.0 for windows. All data were presented as mean±standard deviation. The changes of Wingate test parameters and body composition were calculated by paired-sample t-test. The body composition (weight: -5.2%, body fluid: -5.5%, body fat: -4.8%) showed the remarkable differences between before and after rapid weight loss. Heart Rate during treadmill exercise were significantly increased after acute weight loss. And PP(t=2617, p=.047), AP(t=3412, p=.019), APW(t=3.645, p=.015), APF(t=5.276, p=.003) of Wingte test showed a significant decrease after acute weight loss. These results suggest that the acute weight loss result in deleterious effects on circulating system and anaerobic exercise performance. Weight loss techniques are practiced by wrestlers with the belief that competitive success will increase. However, food restriction combined with fluid deprivation has shown to drastically decrease an athlete’s competitive ability.
