To explore any relationships among exercise habit, falling experience, fear of falling and physical fitness in elderly, 254 Y-province indwelling senior men and women(>65yrs) were recruited. Each responded a medical history form composed of fall experience, disease prevalence, exercise habit, pain intensity(SF-8), and activity modifications(ABC's). Also physique, variables regarding to body composition, and physical fitness were measured. The subjects were composed falling experienced(n=76) and non-experienced(n=178) individuals. At the same time they were composed of individuals who had exercise habit(n=101) and who did not have exercise habit (n=153). The fall experience among the total participants represented 29.9%. Among this number, 19.6% were male and 38.0% were female. Overall, female who fell were more influenced by feeling of health, activity modifications, pain intensity and balance score than male who fell. Falling experienced individuals had higher fear of falling and lower activity modifications than non-experienced individuals. Individuals who had exercise habit had lower fear of falling and pain intensity, and higher balance score than who did not have exercise habit. No other parameters in chronic disease prevalence and fitness were statistically different between groups. Based on the results, fear of falling, pain intensity, activity modifications and balance were highly related to falls experience and exercise habit in elderly population, especially in female. It could be suggested that modification and changes of these element may contribute varying the rate of falls experience. Also, prevention programs for elderly women must be settled without delay because the ratio of women to men in fall experience is two to one and falling experience were more influenced by negative effect on female.
