The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a 14 weeks rehabilitative exercise program on isokinetic strength for patients with total knee arthroplasty by a low contact stress total knee system. Each subject(n=15) was performed the rehabilitation program after total knee Arthroplasty that was consisted with a passive range motion and weight bearing exercise, and a straight leg raise for strengthening quadriceps. Isokinetic strength of flexor and extensor muscle of knee were tested at 6, 10, 14 weeks postoperatively. The results of this study were following. During the rehabilitative exercise program, the peak torques of quadriceps and hamstrings in a invasive and a healthy knee muscle were continuously increased. During the rehabilitative exercise program, the hamstrings' strength in the healthy knee was more prominently developed than quadriceps, but the quadriceps' strength in the invasive knee was more prominently developed than hamstrings. So, Legs at 60 /sec, 180 /sec was no significant difference uninvolved H/Q strength ratios periods. However, there was a significant difference found in the involved H/Q strength ratios treatment periods from the baseline to the end of 14 weeks treatment period(p<.05). The deficits of an extensor and an flexor of each knee were decreased by exercise rehabilitation, that indicated the increasement strength balance in both knee.
