The purpose of this paper is to study the meaning of compounds with respect to conceptology. According to conceptology, a concept is made by an abstraction from many different objects which have a common property. The boundaries of a concept are vague, unclear and also overlapping with other concepts as well as its meaning. The meaning of a word represents a concept so that a word has many different meanings including polysemy. Compounds mean (new words made by the combination of one concept and another concept. Compounds have the same characteristics as a word. A word has a prototypical(primary) meaning and a peripheral meaning. In the process of extending the word's meaning, a new meaning is produced from the original meaning and we can also derive the meaning of a compound. A compound's meaning is related to a human's cognition, a culture and a shared knowledge among the members of a society.
