The study is to investigate the effects of dictation on listening skills by testing freshmen of B University in Daejon, and to suggest an effective technique for teaching listening comprehension. The experiment designed to figure out to what extent the students improve their listening skills through dictation was conducted with two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The research results show that listening practice through dictation is effective for improving students' listening skills and the degree of effectiveness differs depending on the students' individual efforts. Once their listening skills improve, it seems to have positive effects on students' general scholastic attainment in English learning. In addition, teaching listening through dictation seems to increase students' interest and confidence in their study of English.
