The advanced wastewater treatment process with selected intermittent aeration and dynamic inflow changes was studied to develope economic retrofitting technology, for the plants where retrofitting of common activated sludge process is required. For this research, the demonstration plant was operated in the existing sewage treatment plant of P city, applied with step operation before the main treatment works. The aim of this study is to examine the organics and nutrients(N & P) removal and the N removal mechanism under the operational conditions of selected intermittent aeration and dynamic inflow changes during pre-treatment. The studied process achieved 82% TN removal (effluent : 6.2 mg TN/L) whereas the common activated sludge process showed only 20% TN removal through the demonstration plants. During this study, the average removal efficiency of BOD5, SS, TN and TP had stable performance ; 87.0%, 89.9%, 63.9% and 60.1%. From the data analysis by the Moving Range control chart, P-vale had 0.07, 0.005, 0.468 and 0.885, which showed that the removal efficiencies in the studied process were not affected by temperature changes and showed stable treatment performance through the seasonal changes. The effluent treated by the studied process had stable quality during this work ; 9.0 mg BOD5/L, 6.6 mg SS/L, 8.8 mg TN/L and 0.9 mg TP/L.
