Hydrogen production using three fruit wastes, watermelon, peach and melon was performed. Enterobacter cloacae YJ-1 was inoculated as seed. The batch culture were performed at 35℃, pH 7.5 and 120rpm with 60mL of working volume. The accumulated hydrogen production of watermelon, peach and melon were 2505.3mL/L, 2690.4mL/L and 2227.5mL/L for 112h, and the productivity of them were 49.0mL/gVSred, 131.4mL/gVSred and 75.6mL/gVSred, respectively. The peach was most effective on hydrogen production and productivity. Effect of various inorganic salts on hydrogen production was investigated. The optimum concentration of Na2MoO4 was 0.04%(w/v) and its maximum hydrogen production was 3015.6mL/L. Among amino acids, tyrosine was most effective. Under optimized conditions of the repeated batch culture(RBC), hydrogen production rate was 300mL/Lㆍhr and accumulated hydrogen production was 8030.5mL/L for 120h. Hydrogen production through RBC was not restricted with by-product during hydrogen metabolism.
