Study on the Newly Enacted International Private Law of Japan in 2006 Yoon, Nam-soon There is a great reformation about Japanese international private law on 21st June 2006, for which Japanese Ministry of Law announced the improvement of various laws and regulations in such a way to meet the realistic needs of modern international private law and the modernization of legal terms and expressions in the Japanese international private law. This reformation in 2006 is to confront the increase of international trade and the change of social, economic world trend in the international private law area, to take other countries' improvement of laws and regulations in international private law in consideration and to modernize the legal terms and expressions in the old Japanese international private law. The laws and regulations for deciding governing law of contracts, torts, assignment of rights are improved, and the laws and regulations for consumer contracts and employment contracts are newly introduced into Japanese international private law. This is due to following up the international trend that seeks to protect the economically and socially weak parties, consumers and employees, and adopt the result and fruit of Japanese case law and doctrine.
