Most modern European philosophers have been concerned with the ‘erasing the self’ in their philosophical entrepreneur to confirm the relational existence of human beings usually in Heideggerian context. But Charles Sanders Peirce(1839-1914) already achieved a well formed way of semiotics in the slogan of ‘man as a sign.’ In this article, focusing on his semiotics, I study the representational view of icon in Peircean semiotics in which his icon works at the function of representation through image and other hypoiconic elements like diagram and metaphor. To do this I use and criticize Thomas Sebeok's and Joseph Ransdell's problematic arguments with iconic revelational theory of icon. In the section one and two, I identify the elemental function of intentionality and duration for icon being successful, then the meaning of conventional feature of the icon. In the other three sections, I want to be certain that the real role of the icon lies in the representation through which the iconic representation functions in one directed way retroductively or progressively. In this process the iconic representation is to ‘expose’ truth and its hermeneutic characteristics, namely the real meaning of self in the semiotic way. Though this semiotic revelation should not be posited in a metaphysical or mystic context. It is because Peirce did not want any metaphysical understanding of self, rather he really wished to amuse with ‘our’ self in the semiotic correlation.
