Purpose : This research investigated and analyzed the adaptation of the current new generation as military personnel, in order to understand the overall phenomenon of the adaptation. Methods : This study is a narrative investigative research that analyzed data collected from in-depth interview using content analysis method. Subjects of investigation are 22 private soldiers in active military service at units in Gangwon-do region; composition is based on commanding officer and colleagues' recommendation for successful adaptation to military service, ranks from first private to corporal. Interview form produced by the researcher was used in order to learn the significance of soldiers' adaptation to military life. Results : Adjusting to military life divided into mainly 3 categories , getting associated with an unfamiliar environment, becoming habituated and discovering development to soldiers. Getting associated with an unfamiliar environment had 3 specific features. The burden of military life, cognizance of freedom regulation, not being able to find the meaning of the military duty. Becoming habituated had 6 features. Overcoming the difference, trying hard, looking at the bright side of military life, friendship between co-soldiers, setting up an example to others, trying hard to get acknowledged. Discovering development had 4 features. Growing into the military life, becoming more like a man, learning civility amongst relationships and becoming more focused at their goal in the future. Conclusion : The results obtained from this study can help with understanding the private soldiers' adaptation experience, be utilized to develop the intervention strategies for quality of military life.
