The first English grammar in the history of Korean English linguistics is Ki Ryong Yi's Jungdeung Yeongmunjeon (An English Grammar for Middle Schools), published in 1911. This historic work, however, has never been the object of serious study in the field of Korean English linguistics. This paper, to my knowledge, is the first major attempt to investigate the author and the content of the work. In section 2, I piece together, and verify the truth of, the fragments of information on the author and work out the author's most plausible biodata. In section 3, I investigate the overall organization and characteristics of the book, and finally in section 4, I investigate the grammatical terms used in the book. This, I hope, may enhance interest in the works done by first-generation Korean English scholars, and consequently in the history of Korean English linguistics.
