This article aims to reveal Ernst Cassirer and Paul Ricoeur's view about Language, Symbol and Myth. Especially Theory of Myth and Symbol in Cassirer and Ricoeur are very important in discussion about contemporary Philosophy of Culture. Through this study we will elucidate philosophical meaning about Myth and Symbol. According to Ricoeur, the Symbol gives rise to thought.
Cassirer said that the Critic of Reason becomes to Critic of Culture. We will deal difference and common point between Cassirer and Ricoeur. Both of them emphasized cognition method of the primitive. It concernd with Mythical Thought. The mythical thought is not directly and logically but indirectly and illogically. We will suggest a way of understanding of human being through mythical and symbolic thought in Cassirer and Ricoeur.
