This study has been conducted to review the utilization of reclaimed combustible construction &demolition (C&D) waste as a solid fuel. The physicochemical characteristics of C&D wastes were examined by sorts and combustible & wood wastes were compared with specifications for fluff type RDF (Refused Derived Fuel) and WCF (Wood Chip Fuel). The results showed the moisture content in combustible satisfied standard. However, moisture content in wood waste was higher than specifications for WCF and the excess in ash content in construction waste added by contained soils. Some samples showed Sulfur contents exceeded RDF, WCF specifications and the Chlorine contents satisfied the specifications for all sorts. The mean lower heating value of 3,918~3,993 Kcal/Kg from combustible C&D wastes satisfied the class IV specifications in RDF. Wood wastes alone showed average 3,500 Kcal/Kg of lower heating value which was comparable to WCF specifications. Heavy metal contents showed wide variations by sorts and reclaimed dates. The mean As & Pb contents contained in some wood wastes exceeded WCF specifications but the heavy metal contents in the majority of reclaimed construction wastes appeared relatively low due removed weather-beaten buildings for long period of time. It was estimated that a pretreatment facility to control moisture, soils and sulfuric contents in reclaimed combustible construction wastes could provide utilizable solid fuel.
