The influence of oil price increase is huge all over the world. And many industries based on fuel have economic loss due to oil price increase. Also, limited amount of fuel has been reduced because of increase in use, and the air pollution by the use of fossil fuel became social issue. We are looking for more efficient direction to preserve the environment upon using energy and as an alternative, we should use recycle energy source. There has been a recent trend in Korea that treatments for combustible wastes among municipal solid waste (MSW) by those methods, such as incineration and landfill are restricted as much as possible and Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) are encouraged actively in order to promote resource recovery. The samples of MSW were collected from detached apartment area, individual dwellings sector, business area, and the others sector of M city in Korea. According to the result of physical analysis, Combustible records 88.43% by paper was 38.24%, vinyl/plastic was 24.16% and food waste is 15.57%, So Incombustible records 11.58% The size distribution of MSW didn't have standard method. So we had experiment as we decided on a basis as more than 200 mm, 100 ~ 200 mm, 80 ~ 100 mm, 50 ~ 80 mm, 30 ~ 50 mm and less than 30 mm by trommel-type size analyzer. In result of the size distribution, Low heating value though each size records high in 100 ~ 200 mm that was 6231.35 ~ 4154.84 kcal/kg. and than it became lower by the followings. Because it was affected by paper and vinyl/plastic ratio. Considering lower heating value of MSW by size distribution, it is possible to use RDF. If MSW distribute at 80mm, We can produce high quality RDF as average 4478.81 kcal/kg (3762.88~5081.65) what get to 4th degree on 3500~4500 kcal/kg. If we make RDF according to this result, we can produce to RDF about 57% of entire of MSW in M city. Hence It is possible to make RDF of about 53,443 ton/year on base of statistics in 2006.
