This research was performed to evaluate extraction characteristics of heavy metals with agitation frequency and kinds of washing solutions, and to evaluate possibility of NaCl as washing solution in soil washing process. Target materials were obtained from disused metal mines. Washing solutions were water, 0.3 N HCl, 0.05 M EDTA, seawater, and NaCl (1, 3.5, 5, 10%). As agitation frequency was stronger, extraction efficiencies of heavy metals were increased in all washing solutions. But extraction effectiveness was different with washing solutions. Extraction efficiencies of heavy metals in water, seawater, NaCl were relatively low, but extraction effectiveness of heavy metals (especially, Cd) was highest in NaCl among these washing solutions. And extraction effectiveness was the highest for Cd in 0.3 N HCl and Pb in 0.05 M EDTA. In evaluating possibility of NaCl as washing solution, extraction concentrations and extraction efficiencies of heavy metals increased with increasing of NaCl concentration. Also, extraction efficiencies of Pb, Cu, and Zn in using NaCl were below 1%, and extraction efficiency of Cd was relatively high as 5.9%. As extraction effectiveness of heavy metals in NaCl was higher than those in water and seawater, it was evaluated that NaCl has enough possibility as washing solution in soil washing process.
