The experiments were performed to understand drying, devolatilization/char combustion of a single particle of RDF and wet sewage sludge through analyzing the exhaust gases under several operating conditions in a laboratory scale fluidized bed combustor. The volatile combustion of RDF was quickly advanced with flame directly after input it into a reactor and then char combustion was advanced. On the other hand, drying, volatile/char combustion processes of sewage sludge were overlapped each other. Comparing the combustion characteristics of RDF and sewage sludge in the fixed bed and fluidized bed, combustion rate of RDF was nearly same in the both bed but it of sewage sludge was more very fast in the fluidized bed than fixed bed. It seems to be movement effect of fluidizing materials. In case of RDF, there is a little effect on the combustion rate according to air flow, temperature variations, but sewage sludge was different in the all conditions. These difference was governed by the pattern of water evaporation in the inside particle. The more the particle size of sewage sludge is small, the more mean carbon conversion time decreased. But total combustion time was similar regardless of particle size.
