This study attempts to investigate the current status of team teaching between native teachers of English and Korean English teachers and to explore effective ways of team teaching in elementary schools. The data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire was administered to eighty Korean elementary English teachers and fifty six native teachers of English. Four Korean teachers were interviewed. The analysis of data showed that: 1) there were more teachers who did not have a training experience regarding team teaching than those who had; 2) the role of a native teacher in team teaching was various from a main teacher to an assistant teacher. 3) many Korean and native teachers were satisfied with team teaching and consider it effective; 4) as for the benefits of team teaching, the opportunities of teacher development, rich English input to the students and English use in a natural situation, the increase of students' motivation and interest in English, the possibility of student-centered instruction by having two teachers in one classroom, etc. were mentioned; 5) however, there were problems in team teaching, the biggest of which were the lack of time for discussing the contents and procedures of team teaching and the unclear role relationships between two teachers. Finally, based on these findings several suggestions were made to improve the practice of team teaching in elementary schools.
