The purpose of this study was to devise assessment elements appropriate to teaching English in English(TEE). Based on the literature review, concrete assessment elements were extracted. Two principles were borne in mind in extracting the assessment elements, which are practicality and observability in school settings. The results of ten classroom observations revealed that it would be very difficult to observe and evaluate English lessons during 45 minutes using 47 assessment elements, due to time limit. Therefore, the classroom assessment tool for TEE was finalized on the basis of the analysis of ten actual English lessons. The finalized classroom assessment tool for TEE consists of four domains(i.e., lesson planning & design, classroom English proficiency, classroom implementation/teaching skills, and learners’ English usage & activities) and 25 assessment elements. In this paper, it was suggested that the finalized classroom assessment tool for TEE needs to be customized to the classroom assessment appropriately and systematically based on the variables such as school level, students’ English competence level, lesson goal, and main activities in each lesson.
