This paper aims to provide the basic information for effective Korean writing education for learners from class of overseas students. I analyzed errors found in elective Korean Composition courses for class of overseas college students. The errors discovered in writings of overseas college students are categorized into the general errors which are also made by ordinary college students, and the special errors which are found only in writings of overseas college students. This paper mainly analyzed special errors found only at class of overseas college students. The major errors found in writings of overseas college students belong to grammatical categories; tense, honorific expression, causative expression, and passive expression. In addition, overseas college students often make errors caused by lack of understandings about language criterion of Korean. The patterns of errors can be categorized by students’ first language in their place of pre-residence. Studies aiming to analyze and categorize errors found in writings of overseas students by first language in their place of residence can contribute to development of educational curriculum and educational methodologies, which will enable learners to successfully complete the college educational program.
