This study was started to propose the plane shape type to a data reading room of public libraries which is useful for way finding and space perception while new construction or remodeling of a public library is actively pursued nowadays. To do this, the case studies were taken in the data reading room of a library and the existing furniture layout was observed. Also, based on a manual on construction and management for public libraries, the furniture layout types were recorded according to their width and height, and the direction of the bookshelf layout based on the percentage of the area of the bookshelf area. To invest in the best accessibility and visibility according to furniture layout quantitatively, the analysis was implemented by using space syntax and depthmap. The main purpose of the study is to propose the plane shape type and furniture layout type which are easier for way finding and visual accessibility. First of all, way finding according to the plane shape type in a data reading room of a library was analyzed. The result showed that the most useful plane shape type according to space accessibility was the quadrangle plane type. Second, in an analysis of data accessibility, the average space depth was analyzed from the entrance to the bookshelf area based on the bookshelf layout direction according to each plane shape type. The most useful plane shape types on data accessibility was quadrangle plane type according to the height direction on the bookshelf layout. Third, to analyze space perception on the location, the entrance on the plane shape type and the visibility of the center in topological space were examined. The results showed that the highest visible plane shape type in the entrance and the center in topological space was quadrangle plane type.
