In regards to how to form the meaning when arranging and displaying exhibits in the exhibition space of museum and art museum as well as what aesthetic, cultural, and social discourses that the presentation of exhibits have, Herbert Bayer (1988) claims that a place where space, exhibits, and viewers act complexly and dynamically together through communication among them is an exhibition. Likewise, an exhibition space is a forum for conversation to discuss the era by forming the relationship of mutual communication that represents society and culture, instead of an isolated and independent space. Therefore, this research aims to propose a structural system of exhibit expression by examining Wolfflin’s theory of art, introduction of Russian formalism theory ‘defamiliarization,’ and Bakhtin’s Chronotope, that is, by drawing linguistic patterns through units for literature evaluation, with an importance of aesthetic consideration in presenting exhibits. The first, the line-style can be found in the presentation of exhibitions in an exhibition space that was opened in the 19th century, which is similar to Wolfflin’s theory of art, and after then there is a strong tendency of picturesque-style. Second, the presentation of exhibits in exhibition spaces that were recently-opened is mostly singularization, regardless of the topic of exhibition. Ultimately, it can be seen that it provides an opportunity of adding the depth of new perspective through Chronotope’s theory and formality, and Wolfflin’s aesthetic approach.
