This study explored the trend of typical changes in the listening items in the Secondary English Teacher Employment Examination (SETEE) in Korea from 2009 to 2014. For this study, a total of forty-three recorded sound sources were analyzed according to the three factors: ① the content of the sound source, ② the length of the sound source, ③ the speech rate of the sound source. A total of forty-five listening items were also analyzed according to the item difficulty. To investigate item difficulty fifteen subjects who have advanced degrees in English education participated in this study. The study found that the listening items of the SETEE did not include either ELT-related or authentic classroom-related sound source. The study also discovered that the average length of the sound source was one minute and ten seconds, and the average speech rate was 165.7 WPM. The sound sources of the conversation type have maintained almost the same length, while those of the monologue type have continuously decreased in length over the six years. Lastly, 93% of the sound sources were categorized as easy ones. Implications and suggestions for further research on the listening items of the SETEE are also made.
