목 적: 선글라스용 렌즈의 착색농도에 따른 시력 및 망막의 대비감도 변화를 확인하여 선글라스의 생산 및 유통 관리의 선진화를 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 방 법: 나안 또는 교정시력이 0.7 이상이고 안질환이 없는 평균 22±3세의 대학생 30명(60안)을 대상으로 80cd/㎡의 검사실에서 5m용 란돌트 고리 시표를 이용하여 회색 및 갈색의 선글라스용 렌즈의 착색농도를 80%, 60%, 40%로 하여 각 단안의 시력검사를 실시하였고 F.A.C.T.(Functional Acuity Contrast Test., Stereo Optical, USA) 시표를 이용하여 대비감도 검사를 실시하였다. 결 과: 착색렌즈를 착용하지 않았을 경우의 시력이 착색렌즈를 착용하였을 때 보다 더 좋았으며 착색농도가 진해짐에 따라 시력의 감소가 나타났다(P=0.000). 80% 착색농도의 회색렌즈에서는 착색렌즈를 착용하지 않은 경우에 대하여 0.28±0.03, 갈색렌즈에서는 0.28±0.04의 시력감소가 나타났다. F.A.C.T. (Functional Acuity Contrast Test., Stereo Optical, USA)를 사용한 대비감도 검사에서도 회색 및 갈색렌즈 모두에서 80% 착색농도의 렌즈에서는 전 공간주파수에서 정상범위에 미치지 못하였으며 60% 착색농도에서는 1.5 cpd를 제외한 나머지 공간주파수에서 정상범위에 미치지 못하였고 40% 착색농도에서도 6 cpd 이상의 공간주파수에서 정상범위에 미치지 못하였다. 회색 및 갈색렌즈 모두에서 1.5 cpd를 제외한 공간주파수에서 대비감도가 유의하게 감소하였다. 결 론: 선글라스의 착색렌즈의 농도는 미용적인 요소에 의하여 선택되어지고 있으므로 안경사의 처방 시 착색농도에 의한 시력 및 대비감도의 감소를 고려하여 선글라스의 용도에 따른 착색농도가 선택되어져야 할 것이다.

Purpose: To identify the changes of visual acuity and retina’s contrast sensitivity according to tinting concentrations of sunglasses lenses. Materials and Methods: The subjects of experiment were 30 university students who were older than 19 and younger than 25. (60 eyes) In addition, none of them had any ocular disease and their unaided visual acuity were above 0.7. Examination of visual acuity was done by using Chart of Landolt’s ring of 5m in the laboratory in which intensity of illumination was 80cd/㎡. Monocular vision acuity examination was also carried out with changing tinted concentration of either brown color lenses or gray color lenses at the rate of 80%, 60%, and 40% respectively. Furthermore, contrast sensitivity test was executed by using F.A.C.T.(Functional Acuity Contrast Test., Stereo Optical, USA). Results: Visual acuity of the subjects without tinted lenses were better than those of the subjects with tinted lenses. As tinted concentration came to be darker, visual acuity became worse(P=0.000). In the case of gray lenses of 80% tinted concentration, the subjects’ visual acuity decreased by 0.28±0.03 compared to the case of not wearing tinted lenses. Similarly, in the case of brown lenses with same condition, their visual acuity decreased by 0.28±0.04. Moreover, the contrast sensitivity test using F.A.C.T. illustrated that lenses of 80% tinted concentration did not reach normal range at all of cycles per degree, and lenses of 60% tinted concentration did not reach normal range at all of cycles per degree except at 1.5 cpd, and lenses of 40% tinted concentration did not reach normal range at cycles per degree above 6 cpd. For both gray lenses and brown lenses, Contrast sensitivity was significantly reduced at all of cycles per degree except at 1.5 cpd. Conclusion: Since tinted concentration of lenses for any sunglasses is currently decided by aesthetic elements, possible damages at visual acuity and decrease of contrast sensitivity and tinted concentration in accordance with usage of sunglasses should be essential elements at any time of prescription and optometric dispensing of sunglasses.
