Case 1: Butane is a simple asphyxiant with explosive (LEL% 1.9) and flammability. Butane cans are often used as fuel gas for portable heaters. In a case of death by turning on portable heaters in enclosed vehicle, exposure to butane concurrently with carbon monoxide (CO) was investigated as a toxicological issue such as the time of death. To estimate the death history, it is important to determine if fuel gas is detected in the cadaver. Field test showed that after 70 minutes after the heater was ignited, the heater was turned off and butane started leaking without burning.
