A new era of Christian documentary films has begun in South Korea. As many as 24 Christian documentary films were released in theaters between 2009 and 2017. Among them, there are 15 films directly related to missionary work. All of these films show the missionaries as the main characters. The reason for the revival of such films seems to have played a huge role in the popularity of documentaries such as <Old Partner(워낭소리)>(2008) and <Don’t cry for me sudan(울지마 톤즈)>(2010). In addition, modern people of material civilization saw the purity and passion of the missionaries devoted to poor people in the faraway lands. There are three types of missionary documentaries. The first is a missionary film centered on missionary work in the field of missionary work, and is devoted to the dedication and distress of missionaries, who live in poverty or sometimes even primitive landscapes. The second is mission history documentary film, which reflects Christians' beliefs and helps them learn about God's call for missionary work. Third, there is a missionary documentary film about internal conflicts that occur inside the family until becoming a missionary. This shows that the missionary documentary film is developing in various ways. But most of all, missionary documentary films can act as a missionary to the people who watched the films and promote missionary work. And it can help restore the credibility of the Church towards a world of disbelief. Because the realistic and touching film has the power to move the mind. Therefore, the church needs to actively encourage Christians to watch missionary documentary films and assist in producing the films. Korean church needs to know that digital generations communicate via video. If the missionary documentary film becomes a popular genre, it will also have a good influence on the Korean cinema as well as the Korean church. The paper analyzes the production and release of Korean missionary documentary films that began in earnest in the 21st century. It will help to understand how the Korean church communicates with New Generation and performing culture missionary work.
