Cho, heunpa’s 「Yalgaejeon(The story of Yalgae)」(1954, 5~1955, 3) is a ‘humor (myungrang) novel’ serially published in 』Hakwon , published targeting middle school students who rapidly increased due to change of after Korean war educational system. This work, called the representative work of serial novel, was popular as much it recorded the biggest number of sold copies during that time. This research analyzed 「Yalgaejeon」, the individual work published in the magazine based on the existing literary history status research on 』Hakwon . Firstly, in 「Yalgaejeon」, Dusu’s joke at school or home appeared differently from the middle school students of that period when overheated entrance exam competition became the social problem during the 1950s. The appearance of yalgae ‘Dusu’, who was not punished by teacher or parents even after joking as he pleased, even he failed in exam twice, was the model that the middle school students wished at school and home. Due to this, such events, considered as secondary plot in this work, gave ‘fun’ to challenge the authority hard to resist, giving relief to the readers through this, could draw popularity of ‘humor novel’. However, in the last session, Dusu case to be a hero who saved the school in an accidental opportunity, the core narrative changed to ‘a process that failed student becomes a hero’, all events were gathered in this core story. It was an instructive conclusion that intended to prepare ‘preliminary nation’ who exert responsibility and duty for the nation during the period that emphasized social role and duty of students after war. Eventually, the events that appeared in the front line in「Yalgaejeon」 were the jokes of Dusu at school and home, however they stopped at secondary episodes without creating a core story. Since the core narrative in the last session treated the process that Dusu becomes a hero, accordingly, it forcedly becomes preparing preliminary nation. This way, the narrative structure of 「Yalgaejeon」 could be said to fully show the characteristics of popular novel, ‘fun’ and ‘instruction’.
