At the beginning of process for urban development in China , as an one of the plans for the advancement of urbanization, most of the older buildings were torn down and replaced by modern construction. This kind of development brought about the reduced distintiveness of each cities' traditional features and historic ones, thus facing the characteristic crisis of "all the cities looking alike". In the 2000s, in order to respond to this situation, the Chinese government tried to search for the cultural value of the unused space adjacent to street such as neglected factories and residence in the city, and reuse them under the theme of 'cultural street', ‘cultural park’, which contributed to the promotion of local identity and the cultural life of citizens. The unused space adjacent to street is not only an intermediary space that connects surrounding area in geographical situation , but also links the past and the modern to the future as a space that responds to the memory of the past and human needs. It is a community space in which visitors and residents can interact with each other and the unused space of adjacent street occupies an important place in the urban context. Therefore, the research is about 'eastern suburb memory (동교기억문화단지)', a good example of the unused space of adjacent street which is revitalized by reused for culture space. The aim of this study is learning about the characteristics about this town and suggesting the desirable way to go.
