The purpose of this study is to propose the childcare policy for the population with problems of ageing and low birth rate by suggesting the space configuration and possible improvement of workplace nurseries. This study is analyzed based on parent satisfaction survey about the space configuration of nurseries and case studies on a school, two public institutions, a hospital and two private businesses in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The result demonstrates that good proximity to workplaces in nearby areas is preferred, as well as being in a private location with no effect from the external environment. Additionally, a functional outdoor playground is required or otherwise an alternative playroom with functional space configuration. Although each spaces is generally composed functionally, the survey reveals the lack of quality in private area and break rooms for employees. The children’s toilet facilities are conveniently provided for all age groups, but the bathroom arrangement should be thoroughly considered due to low efficiency of having large number of bathrooms. Despite positive results regarding safety, nurseries require improvements on the poor quality of lighting and ventilation systems.
