Ukiyo‐e slowly declined in the late Edo Period. While Ukiyo‐e had a great influence on Impressionists in Europe, it was losing its ground in transient times toward the Meiji Period. However, there were some artists like Kawanabe Kyousai(1831‐1889) and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi(1839‐1892) who set out to work the new media, modern newspaper as well as continued to adhere to the style of their teacher, UtagawaKuniyoshi(1797‐1861). Both of them were Kuniyoshi’s students even though Kyousai left him and entered Kano’s family. With this background, this paper focused on the modern sense of Ukiyo‐e artists in the Late Edo Period and the phases of Media Mix in the aspect of culture. Since Kuniyoshi’s satirical Ukiyo‐e, Kyousai and Yoshitoshi made such Ukiyo‐e become much more modern style through various modern media in the Meiji Period. The features of Caricature and Manga in the present day are found among their works. Before disappearing, Ukiyo‐e had time in taking the first step toward Media Mix by combining and recreating of its cultural contents.
